I just completed a Rim-to-Rim hike of the Grand Canyon in one day! Hooray!
I am so happy with this accomplishment, but it did take hard work, planning and prep to accomplish it.
The whole time I was in the canyon, I was thinking about achieving that goal. I was there, had put in months of prep time (hikes, figuring out my hydration and electolytes and food) and the mental capacity to keep going even when I didn’t feel like it.
I made a conscious effort to feel gratitude and happiness that I was there and accomplishing something that I had been thinking about for years.
The moment was not lost on me and when I finished, I was physically spent, but had so much joy for accomplishing that goal!
Questions I had leading up to it:
Are you scared of heights? *yes!
Do you think you can do it? *yes!
Why do you want to do that? (The Mental and Physical Challenge)
Curious about logistics (parking, hiking (bathrooms) *there are plenty of bathroom & water stops that are so clean!
One interesting resource is I read was through thehikingguy.com (check out his info. on hiking the Grand Canyon South Rim to North Rim in one day! Pretty accurate!
Also, I was able to accomplish this goal with my cousins who were also working to make this happen. There is something about not feeling alone in this that was important to me. It also helped motivate me to think that they were depending on me to finish strong.
Confession: I’m from Oklahoma and yes, I did have oxygen in my bag and a small roll of toilet paper! You don’t want to get stuck at the bottom of the canyon!
So, my question for you to ponder…Do you have a bucket list? If so, what’s on it. If not, do you want to consider three things to add to it?
So many of you have big career goals. Things you want to achieve and it’s great to have something to work towards. For me, it gives me direction and purpose.
So plan, put in the work and then go for it! And let me know about your journey! I want to cheer you on!
And…if you have any specific questions about the hike, send me a DM through IG https://instagram.com/sharingpassionandpurpose! I’d love to hear from you!
