Many Tulsa children are beginning the new school year empty handed because their parents cannot afford to buy the paper, pencisl, notebooks, pens, erasers, and the myriad of supplies on classroom lists. While school-supply drives help fill some need, The Pencil Box, a non-profit founded by Nancy Bolzle, provides free school supplies to teach year-round.
During this visit, she shares what inspired her to start The Pencil Box, and how it runs as an organization – including how they decide what teachers are able to shop. They have an incredible way to track what teachers are getting and let the Principal at the school know. This frees up money for them to purchase larger items that they are in need of. She also shares how the pandemic affected their organization and how they pivoted to reach teachers.
Their upcoming fundraiser Rock, Paper, Scissors is rapidly approaching – October 14 – and she shares details about the event! For more information about this special event, check out: ThePencilBox.org/rps
