In this episode

In this episode I sit down with Brit Albin, an artist and creative consultant who recognized her God-given gift at a young age and has spent her life learning to trust where it was leading her. Brit's journey wasn't a straight line — from finding art as a way to process her parents' divorce at seven, to walking away from a large university art program to attend an unaccredited Bible college, to finally going all in on her art business right as the world was shutting down. Through all of it, she kept positioning her feet toward Jesus.

What I love about this conversation is how honest Brit is about the fear that comes with pursuing a creative calling — the "starving artist" worry, the isolation, the questioning. She shares the dream that finally pushed her to take the leap, why she still keeps two checks in her wallet, and the story behind her "Mended at the Cross" series that brought a marriage back together.

If you're carrying a dream you keep talking yourself out of, this one is for you. Brit's belief is simple and steady: be authentic in your pursuit of Jesus, take the next step, and trust Him with the rest. Keep going — I think you'll leave this episode encouraged to lean into your own gifts and talents.

Key takeaways

  • Your gifts can be a gift to others — Brit creates art that tells people's stories and reminds them that God is present in their pain, not absent from it.
  • Obedience often comes before clarity. Brit left a large university art program for an unaccredited Bible college simply because she felt the Lord wouldn't let the thought go — and it's where she discovered the texture work that defines her art today.
  • Fear of being a 'starving artist' keeps a lot of creatives stuck. Brit's encouragement: if you're authentic in your pursuit of Jesus, take the step and trust Him with the process.
  • Isolation is one of the enemy's tools for creatives who work alone. Brit fills her studio with scripture, notes from friends, and anything that redirects her eyes toward Jesus.
  • Invest in yourself through community and mentorship. Look around at who already has the knowledge you need, cultivate those relationships, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
  • Daily rhythms matter. Brit centers herself in the Word before painting because she views her art business as a co-creation with Christ.
  • Don't sit on the redemptive stories you've been given — sharing them is part of the gift. Brit held her 'Mended at the Cross' story for two years before a friend reminded her she was doing people a disservice by keeping it to herself.
I wanna create art that lights people up from the inside and shows people the goodness of God — that God has not left them, that He is very much present with them in their story.
If it all else fails, at least I took a step towards Jesus. At least I chose Him.
When I tell you to do something, all I'm asking is for your step of obedience.
Being authentic in pursuit of Jesus is the best way to thrive.
