In this episode
In this episode I'm wrapping up season five, and honestly, I can hardly believe how fast it flew by. Between my daughter studying abroad in Italy and my son's senior year, this season came and went in the blink of an eye — but I learned so much from my guests along the way, and I hope you did too. This season I leaned into purpose, and I loved hearing how each guest put their own purpose into words.
I also want to talk about something that's been on my mind. A Gallup poll found that only about a third of workers are fully engaged in their work — which means two-thirds of us aren't. There are a lot of reasons for that, but the one that stands out to me is purpose. When we don't feel purposeful about what we're doing, it's so much harder to stay engaged.
So if you're still figuring out your purpose, that's okay — keep going. I share a simple, doable exercise you can try over the next month to start noticing where you feel most alive. And before you head into summer, I'd love your help shaping season six. If there's someone you'd like to hear from, reach out. I'll see you in August.
Key takeaways
- Season five leaned into purpose — pay attention to how people articulate their own purpose, because it can help you put words to yours.
- Only about a third of workers are fully engaged in their work (Gallup) — and a lack of purpose may be a big reason why.
- Purpose and engagement are connected: feeling purposeful in your work tends to make you more engaged and, in turn, more successful.
- Try a one-month reflection practice: each evening, jot down how your day went — where you felt most alive and where you felt most drained.
- You can journal on paper or on your phone; the point is consistency, not the method. You may even spot patterns before the full month is up.
- The moments when you feel most alive often point straight to your sense of purpose.
- Nancy is now booking season six — DM her on social media or email sharingpassionandpurpose@gmail.com to suggest a guest.
“This season I focused more on purpose, and I hope you were able to learn from how people articulate their purpose.”
“Only one third of workers are fully engaged in their work — so the majority of people aren't.”
“If you're still struggling, I want you to know there's a way to take action.”
“I love what I do, and I love being a part of your community and your life.”
