In this episode I'm sharing something special — a live podcast event I hosted earlier this month with Dr. Megan Weinkauf, where the two of us went deep on a topic that holds so many of us back without us even realizing it: limiting beliefs. I want you to sit with the question Megan and I opened with — what if the only thing standing between you and the life you want is a belief you haven't challenged yet?
Megan is a professor, leadership coach, author, and host of The Faithful Leader podcast. She walked our room of women through her Five R model — Recognize, Realize, Release, Receive, and Reengage — and it isn't a "do these steps and you're fixed" formula. It's a new rhythm you get to practice with grace, progress over perfection. We talked about where these beliefs come from, how they quietly shape our leadership and the words we speak, and how to take one small action to move forward.
I love that this was something we worked on together during the conversation, not just talked about. If you've been telling yourself "I'm not ready," "someone else is already doing this," or "everything depends on me," this one is for you. Keep going — and grab a pen, because there's real work to do here.
Key takeaways
- Awareness begins when you start thinking about what you're thinking about — limiting beliefs often hide as simple, matter-of-fact statements like 'I'm not ready yet' or 'everyone depends on me.'
- Your brain believes what you repeat, so choose your narrative carefully — even the stories you never say out loud are shaping your decisions.
- Work the Five R model as a rhythm, not a checklist: Recognize the belief, Realize where it came from, Release the lie, Receive the truth, and Reengage with one small action.
- Limiting beliefs come from repeated experiences — childhood, generational and cultural rhetoric, perfectionistic environments, even old labels someone once put on you.
- Your leadership flows from your identity: if you don't believe you're capable, you hesitate, avoid risk, over-control, and struggle to release and trust your team.
- Confidence doesn't come first — movement does. Take the small action before you feel ready, and the emotional charge gets lighter each time you show up.
- When you get frustrated with someone else, pause and check whether you're actually frustrated with yourself — and let people be on their own journey so they can grow.
